The Pre-Cana course has been very helpful as we prepare for marriage. My partner and I have discussed many aspects of our backgrounds and goals for the future, but we often don’t take time to analyze or reflect on our experiences, attitudes, or goals. This course gave us ample opportunities to converse openly about topics that impact many aspects of our lives but may not always be talked about explicitly. Not only did it spark thoughtful discussion, but it also was so enjoyable in its format of both individual and collaborative practices. Through reflective prayer and guided conversations, we have been able to grow closer together in a focused, spiritual, and comfortable process. The online Pre-Cana class was certainly a unique experience for Maddy and I. It allowed us to explore a variety of different topics, including love, finances, future children, and most importantly, how our lives are intertwined with Christ. I personally believed this experience was quite enjoyable and helpful. As we worked through the topics at our speed, it allowed us to take time and truly focus on our answers. Also, I believe that the ability to digest the questions twice (once individually and once with Maddy) provided a fantastic opportunity for me to not only understand the expectations of being a husband but also work with Maddy on how we can have a successful marriage. Furthermore, since I recently converted to Catholicism at the Easter vigil, the sacraments are new to me. However, this course taught me about the Sacrament of Marriage through active learning.
Through videos, various readings, and complex questions, I was able to learn more about the role of Christ in our marriage from preparation to our wedding day to beyond. Overall, I would strongly recommend this Pre-Cana class to other couples. This course allowed Maddy and I to better understand each other as well as the role of Christ in our marriage.
