I was skeptical about the course, mostly because I wasn’t sure what exactly premarital counseling would entail. However, I quickly realized how helpful this course was. I thought that Danny and I were already having good conversations, but this course allowed the both of us to take a step back and have a space to talk to each other deeply.
I cried multiple times throughout the course while we went through our reflection responses because talking it over with him made me feel even closer than before we started. I think there is so much to go through before marriage and I think that this course was able to help us both think about not only the exciting things to come, but also future challenges and how we can strive to overcome them through communication and faith. I highly recommend this course to couples who are very busy. Danny and I are both physicians, so scheduling an in-person pre-cana course was nearly impossible. This allowed us to discuss the same topics but at our own pace. – Abbi
This exercise was great. It was an excellent way to talk about the serious life issues that we will need to navigate throughout over the course of our marriage. The best part is the self-paced nature of the course. Because of it, we were able to have long discussions and really immerse ourselves in some of the questions and were not limited by a schedule or itinerary in an in-person session.
We had discussed wanting to do premarital counseling, especially to know how to better resolve conflicts, but this pre-cana course was a great model of how we should discuss things in the future. As a man who was raised protestant, I am thankful for this experience to understand the sacrament of marriage from the catholic perspective. The online course also helps make a catholic marriage more accessible to me because I am free to ask my fiance questions without judgement. I would recommend this course to both Catholics and non-Catholics to fulfill their pre-cana certification. – Danny
