I found this course to be very helpful! It was a great aid to communicating things that we wouldn’t otherwise have the words for. It was a space to learn about each other and develop our skills, but in a low-pressure and fun way, since there was no ‘inciting incident’ to bring it about. I think it was an excellent faith resource to build together as well- including a prayer at the end of each session was wonderful.
This Pre Cana course was an enjoyable experience for me. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect going in, but I was hopeful that it would bring Ben and I closer together, and I was right! Most of the topics we have discussed throughout our relationship, but it was nice to revisit these topics. Most of all, what I appreciated about the course was that it reminded me what this is all about. Wedding planning is a lot, and I think it’s easy to forget that this season isn’t about planning one day. It’s about planning and preparing for our life together. – Rose
I can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoyed the process of completing our Pre Cana. I found each conversation to be not only very beneficial to our relationship but also to myself, personally. Rose and I turned each conversation into its own little “date night”, which made it feel less like work and more like an activity or an experience. And that’s what it was; at its core it was work on our relationship and preparing ourselves for our union with God and each other, but it was also a very enjoyable activity.
I am an athlete as well as a coach of athletes and because of this I often think of goals or achievements in two categories: process goals and results goals. Process goals are like hey let’s get 100 miles in this week and lets stay healthy and happy while doing it. Results goals would be let’s use that training to win this race. Anyways, I say all of this to say that I really enjoyed both the process and the results and I think that Rose and I really nailed both the process and the results of this whole endeavor. I enjoyed the process so much that I would really like to continue on with activity date nights like this in the future.
I also think it really helped both of us to have a better understanding of how this partnership includes our Lord. It also helped us with questions about what our roles are as husband and wife, in God’s eyes. At the end of the day, it made me think in terms of percentages… Each of us are 100% a person and everything we do can be measured in the way of “oh i’m probably 90% good at that, out of 100%. I personally may only be 10% good at cleaning, but I’m 92% good at fixing car issues.
Through marriage, Rose and I are no longer working in a percentage out of 100%, but now we each have 200% because we are one and we are a team! We are together and together we are stronger, especially when we are walking in God’s path. I am definitely going to tell people to partake in this course! Even if you’ve already been married for 30 years, I think you could find a lot of value in this course. As I stated earlier, I found so much value in this that I want to continue these practices throughout the life of our marriage! Thank you Rev. Frank for providing such a wonderful place for us to learn and grow in our faith and as a couple! – Benjamin
