I found this course to be very helpful! It was a great aid to communicating things that we wouldn’t otherwise have the words for. It was a space to learn about each other and develop our skills, but in a low-pressure and fun way, since there was no ‘inciting incident’ to bring it about. I think it was an excellent faith resource to build together as well- including a prayer at the end of each session was wonderful.
The main thing that this course has brought to my attention is how much we are going to be a unit– a unit with each other, and when facing the world. We have each other’s backs over friends, family, and ourselves. There will always be one of us there to support the other, both supported by God’s grace. I would tell other couples to take their time and enjoy the conversations- try to tie them back to previous experiences or what you witness/ed in your parent’s marriage. There is always going to be more to learn, but this is a fantastic place to start. – Lydia
I found this course to be quite useful. A lot of the things discussed in this course we had already previously discussed several times, but there were a couple helpful things about the course that changed those conversations. First was setting aside a specific time to have the conversation, with preparation time to allow both sides to clearly communicate what they want to say.
Second was having it in writing for future reference. Third, while we had previously discussed most things, there were still many things that hadn’t occurred to us to discuss. I think the most useful of the conversations was the issues one, which allowed us to slow down and tackle it methodically and as a team. I’m very much looking forward to being a team for the rest of our marriage. Overall, I would recommend this course to couples who are going to get married or are already married, anyone looking to understand their partner better. – Graham
